Argentina 2013: A Wonderful Hunt and Fantastic Vacation, Day 5 Part 6

We got back in time to pack before dinner, and that is what I decided to do.  Marcello had finally been able to make it to camp, and I wanted to have time to get to know him and enjoy the last night in camp.  Packing to return home is one of the saddest things I can think of.  It seemed like we only arrived last night and the promise of unknown adventures was waiting to be discovered.  Now, the adventures have been lived to the fullest and were fresh in our memories.  There were new friends to keep in touch with and more tall tales to tell when we returned back home.  When I had completed what packing I could do this evening, I had also reconciled the necessity of one adventure ending before another can begin.  I even had time for a nice long shower to wash away the sweat and grime of a day in the field.  Standing under the stream of water did wonders for my mental state as long as I didn’t remember I have to leave tomorrow.  At any rate, I was ready for a cocktail and dinner.

Dinner on the last night is always a special experience and tonight’s was no exception.  On the last night the cuts of meat always seem more tender, and the vegetables seem fresher and the desserts sweeter.  The beef falls apart even before the fork gets within cutting range.  The grilled vegetables are soft enough not to need cutting and firm enough to stay on the fork when stuck.  There is even a chocolate ice cream that compliments the malbec for dessert.  Add in some conversation made up of stories (new to you), as told by your new friends and camp mates, as you get to know them, with your own favorite old stories as they get to know you, and you have the makings for a perfect evening.  After dinner, everyone retired to the fire pit for digestifs (after dinner drinks) and a few more tall tales and promises to return soon.  Life was definitely good.
