Argentina 2013: A Wonderful Hunt and Fantastic Vacation: Part 5

by david on July 26, 2013

We arrived at the Estancia just about dark and we all were more than ready to get out of the van.  We made a quick trip to our rooms, dropped off our bags, took a quick potty break, and then it was time for a sundowner.  Bob, John, and I had been sampling some of the Malbecs available in the US as preparatory work for the trip and had been looking forward to sampling some of the local vintages.  We were not disappointed.  The wine was very good and I caught myself hungrily anticipating the beef I knew was coming for dinner.  The thoughts of the “Putruele” malbec and Argentinian beef had my taste buds imagining what was to come and they were working overtime.  I had to be careful not to drool all over the place while we waited on dinner.

Dinner was still a ways off, though, so I decided to wind down a bit while I enjoyed a few more glasses of the malbec.  The others followed suit, and we also had a chance to get to know our host.  Claus Larsen hails from Sweden, where he operates a farm and runs a hunting outfit.  It did not take long for me to start planning another adventure.  My wife would probably kick my backside when she finds out but that will be a story for another day.  I hope I can deflect some of her attention from the hunt by planning another vacation-and-hunt combination.  I was pretty sure Scandinavia is on her list of places to see.

Tomorrow: Dinner Time
