Prepaying?

by david on April 26, 2013

I do not like traveling with a lot of cash, so prepaying the bill is something I like to do.  Since this was my first trip to South America, and this particular outfitter, I wanted to make sure I was going to include everything.  Rather than just writing things out in a paragraph, or asking about a specific number, I made a little line-item list, and then I sent it in an e-mail for confirmation.  The list below is what I came up with.

Balance of the hunt            $1870.00

Van $850.00 / 5 =                $ 170.00

Hunting License                  $ 150.00

Shells 8 cases or 80 boxes  $1040.00

Gun Rental $70.00 x 4 =     $ 280.00

Bird Boys $40.00 x 4 =       $ 160.00

$3670.00 (in US dollars)

I am unsure whether or not this helped or not.  What I do know is that it allowed me to list everything in a form that I could check off of my list, making sure I had accounted for everything I knew about.  It turned out I was correct and I had the correct amount to wire.  Upon completing the wire transaction, all I had to do was e-mail Patricia confirming I had wired the money.  After that, all I had to do was print a copy of the wire confirmation from my computer, and print copies of each of the e-mails confirming the amount and acknowledging the receipt of the wired funds.  These three pieces of paper would make sure there’d be no confusion when it comes time to settle the account at the end of the hunt.
