Getting Excited About Leaving For Africa

by david on July 13, 2012

I head to the airport in less than 16 hours and I can finally say I am getting really, really excited about going to Africa.  Sounds strange but with all of the last minute projects going and worrying about my baggage being overweight, my mind was just too busy to relax.  I am happy to report the bags are all packed and I am within limits on all of them.  All of my honey-do projects are done; the chlorinator for the pool is full, the trash has been taken to the dump, the fridge, freezer, and pantry have been stocked, and the handful of other tasks have all been completed.  The decision about where to go out to eat tonight (not always an easy one at my house) has been made.  Whew I can finally take a moment to myself to write this and look forward to going hunting.

It will take me 36 hours to get there and part of another day to complete some business before leaving for camp.  That translates to sometime on Tuesday the 17th before I get to camp and Wednesday the 18th before the hunting starts.  That is unless hint #6a from my book rears its head.  Hint #6a simply states “Look out for the unexpected.  Africa is full of surprises and will spring them on you at any time”.  If that happens who knows where I’ll be or what I’ll be doing, and that is one of the reasons I love Africa so dearly.  If my IPhone works as planned I will be posting pictures, stories, and video from the hunt, so check back later.  Now I can look forward to some hard recoiling rifles, sand in my boots, and a brandy around the campfire.

Wish me luck,

David B
