First Aid Kits Part II
Today’s notes are a continuation of yesterday’s.
A larger kit goes into my day pack if I am going to be a mile or more away from the truck or base camp. This kit contains the same items as the little kit, but I add several items to it. Here is what else I take with me: small bottle of a liquid bandage, a roll of white athletic tape, a large bandana, superglue, a needle and thread, a whistle, a signal mirror, a magnesium fire starter, water purification tablets, cotton balls, gauze pads, eye drops, and several packs of the wet-nap hand wipes. Should the worst happen, I can handle just about anything that comes my way. From scrapes and bug bites to major cuts and bleeding, I can patch myself up and get back or wait for help. By the way, my day pack always includes granola / protein bars, trail mix, water, and a small flashlight. If I am concerned about needing shelter or having a problem finding it, I will add a space blanket. By having these items, if I am injured and can’t move or I get lost, I can hunker down for the night and wait for help.
